Yeah... what I meant was that it would be better than Antiques RoadChef or whatever, but not my first choice to see on the BBC either.

Have you seen the official commissioning priorities for daytime shows? It's a laugh riot. "The faces of daytime are all respected for their knowledge, charm and enthusiasm" ... "The success and appreciation of new genres introduced over the last few years on BBC ONE suggest an audience appetite for more challenging programmes."

Not, as I've said, that I'm part of the target audience for these slots in the programming timetable. I just have an Apis mellifera in my beret about patronising crap - sure, make it, just don't show it on the beeb.

I agree with most of your points, and think you've explained them pretty well.

I'm not sure about what you've said on the first page though that they should repeat Randall and Hopkirk, as much as I agree that old shows should not be forgotten about, I would be quite annoyed if my licence fee was going towards filling the airspace with repeated shows. I want to see more well-made unique content.

Otherwise though, your views are similar to mine. I think they should put a lot more effort into the niche audiences, because we just won't get this anywhere else.

BBC is great, and I think they should continue. But I think they need to work just a little bit harder.

Bravo! I especially like your comments on vapid documentaries and 'journeys' vs depth.

Yay. You said "sesquipedalian" - a word which I sometimes use to mean 18-inches (~="Yay-big") even in more mundane circumstances it's become one of my favourite words.

But I like the whole quirkiness of the rhyme, despite being slightly scared of (ptero)-dactyls.

Tell you what, Fiona, I'll... give it some thought... XD

You know, I love the garden gnome robot - I'll have to try to work that into one or other book. (If pirates can have robot parrots, why can't gardeners have robot gnomes?)

Your story must have a hockey player appear who is from a parallel dimension. He has intimite knowledge of giant robots and garden gnomes, he spends the majority of the story building what he has always dreamed off - A giant garden gnome mech with a little wooden fishing rod gun.

Doug: Some of that would go against current plot, but I can definitely get elements in! Cheers. I wonder what snowstorms will be like on a 95% water-covered world...

Pirates get lost in freak snowstorm. Pirate leader ventures out and gets captured by a group of ninja outcasts. Outcasts seek to get redemption by turning ninja leader in, but one of outcasts develops crush on pirate leader. Hilarity and probably some violence ensues when love-stricken ninja and pirate leader escape back to ship.

Just one other thought. Have some characters that do some 'taunting' and inspire shame or guilt in one of the major characters, causing them to chicken-out of the 'wise' course of action...
